This region, until recently poor and backward, associated by many with the words of the song "Polesie charm". "Polesia charm", today has a different character. The wild and untamed nature referred to in this beautiful nostalgic pre-war song has remained only on selected fragments. They are still characterized by the unique beauty of lakes, marshes and bogs, an abundance of rare interesting flora and fauna and a great diversity of habitats and plant communities.
Through the efforts of many people, the most valuable forms of nature, both animate and inanimate, over many decades obtained the status of legal protection. Thus, monuments of nature, reserves, landscape parks and areas of protected landscape were created. The culmination of these activities was the creation of Polesie National Park on May 1, 1990, the first national park in Poland with a water and peatland character. Visiting our, land you will find that extremely interesting nature is accompanied by no less interesting, colorful history. Wandering through our land you will come across traces of prominent historical figures. It was here in Sosnowica that Tadeusz Kosciuszko experienced his unhappy love affair. It was on this land that Father Stanislaw Brzózka, one of the leading figures of the January Uprising, was wounded. And in the vicinity of the village of Wytyczna in October 1939, one of the most dramatic battles fought by the Polish Army against the Red Army took place. It was also on this land that the blood of innocent Uniates persecuted for their religious beliefs was spilled. These are just a few, cited examples. You will learn about others as you wander through the land of lakes, marshes and swamps. Therefore, your wandering through Polesia, in addition to admiration of the beauty of its native nature, will be accompanied, perhaps, by deep reflection on the past of its territories and a tribute to the memory of those who gave their lives defending a just cause. If you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city - here you will find a sanctuary of peace, tranquility and beautiful nature, which will allow you to regenerate your strength, so that full of animation you can return to work. The wild and untamed Bug River is considered in our region to be the river most abundant in fish. If you plan your stay in July an additional attraction awaits you. For several years Wlodawa has organized a festival lasting several days called "International Polesie Summer with Folklore". Bands from almost the entire globe take part in it.
